How Much is that Doggie in the Window?

Last week was my oldest's Pre-K Talent Show at school. She is normally pretty shy in front of crowds, but she was determined to participate. She's obsessed with dogs and decided to sing "How much is that Doggie in the window?" She requested a 'puppy' dress and I figured if it would give her confidence on stage I would do it.

My little puppy

I made her fabric bows for her 'puppy' tails with some of the left over fabric. I bought this fabric for a project, but I can't remember what it was for, so this works. :) I painted her puppy face with the crayon style eyeliner. It doesn't smudge like face paint and I feel better using it over harsh face paints as well.

Here's the dress in all it's glory. I traced a dress she already had to get the top, then gathered the rest of the yard of fabric for the bottom.

We already had some paw print ribbon on hand so I thought it would add a little something. I cut all the pieces out correctly, but somehow when I put the dress together I flipped around the top piece so the dogs are upside down. Oops.

The dress was pretty long, but she's growing so fast that I really didn't want to cut off the excess so I added a wide hem and stitched it twice to hold it in place.

Per my litle stylist's request, I added her favorite puppy buttons. I've used these buttons for the girls' bows before and I just love them. I also added some more ribbon to hide the threads that hold the elastic for the buttons for a really cute effect.

Here's some Talent Show Pics just for fun.

Maddie and her puppies.

My girl did so awesome on stage. I was one proud Mama. I'm pretty sure that using the microphone was her favorite part.

I love having any excuse to make something for my girls. I think it makes me happier than it makes them.

  1. This dress is just adorable!!! It's perfect for that song and your daughter looks like she just loves it too!

I'm always adding 'cute touches' as needed, too!
