This was a BB (before blogging) project, but I love it so much that I thought I would share. The Mr is Army and in this day and age, that means deployments. When you have little ones you try everything you can to keep Daddy's memory fresh in everyone's mind. No parent wants to me a stranger to their child, even after being away for a year. As our first deployment was winding down I was trying to plan the perfect outfit for my then almost 2 year old Maddie. I wanted it to be girly and super cute, but still "Daddy" inspired. I decided to take a pair of my husbands old ACU's and turn them into a dress for my Maddie.
This is Maddie in her dress. She used to love wearing it. She wore it until we had to put pants under it and wear it as a Tunic. You would come to me and say that she wanted to wear "Daddy pants". Sadly it's too small for my Big Girl but my Abby gets to wear it now.
Here's my Abby wearing it for our Christmas picture during our 2nd Deployment. She's only about a year old, so I had to hem the bottom of the dress about 4 inches. She's big enough now that I had to let down the hem.
I just love that something so 'Uniform", pun intended, can turn out so cute. I'm still trying to search out the pattern I used. It's an easy sew pattern. If I find it, I'll update it here. See, These not so flattering pants look so much better as a toddler's dress.
Before our 2nd deployment my husband recorded a good morning and good night message for our girls. Maddie listened to them every day. Sometimes she's talk to him (the screen), but there was always a kiss at the end. This is still the background on my monitor. It still makes me smile.
What a great idea! I've got some old BDUs (Air Force) from my Active Duty days that I'm sure I could do something with. Thanks for sharing! :)
