Planeteer shirts for Earth Day

I originally shared this post almost a year ago an I had almost no followers then so I thought in honor of Earth Day (Monday April 22nd) I would share it with you all again.

Am I the only one who sees any holiday, big or small, as an excuse to make my kids a new outfit? Captain Planet was my favorite super heros growing up so I hope you enjoy.

********************************************************************************

Yes, I am referring to Captain Planet and the Planeteers. My girls and I are huge fans. Since Captain Planet is from the early 90's you can't really go to the store and grab a Planeteer shirt. So I decided to make one for the girls. Here's my little Planeteers.

(this is one of my first attempts at Photoshop an image into my picture. Be forgiving ;) )

If you're a Hub watching Planeteer too here's all you need to make one. If you follow my blog you already know that I'm a big fan of painting shirts. :)

Instead of a stencil I just traced a bowl to get the shape for the yellow center and a small party plate for the outer black ring.

Then I googled the design of the Captain Planet emblem and painted it on free hand. You could also use the edge of the plate to get the shape of the emblem as well.

The girls were super excited to try them out on their favorite color shirts. We picked the shirts up at Joann when they were having a 2 for $5 sale.

And then they enjoyed the awesomeness of their Planeteer Ring(pops)

Just like any good planeteer they even called Captain Planet to help clean up the trash in the park. (we really did pick up the trash left at the park. Maddie said they had to since they were Planeteers)

Hope you enjoyed my post from the past. It's definitely one of mine and the girls favorites. Are there any other Captain Planet fans out there?

Butterfly Hair Clips

I just spent the morning whipping up butterfly hair clips for a special birthday girl and decided to make some extras for my girls. Bright colors and butterflies just scream spring to me.

If you want to make some of your own there is a great tutorial here. I'm also always happy to make custom orders for your little lady. Email me and I'd be happy to work with you.

What spring crafts are you working on lately?

Reese's Egg Stuffed Brownies

Now that Easter is over is anyone else left with an abundance of mostly chocolate Easter candy? My girls attended an egg hunt at their schools, the church and a friends house as well as 2 visits from the Easter bunny and we have more candy than I know what to do with.

Right away I packed up about half of it and took is straight to work (it disappeared in 2 days!). I started thinking of some fun ways we could use up the chocolate an I thought why not add MORE chocolate. I'm not really a big chocolate person but Reese's are one of my favorites so this is what I came up with.

These were really quick and easy *a requirement of mine* and I had everything on hand. All you need is brownie mix (or your favorite homemade version) and a bunch of the small Reese's eggs.

Start by mixing the brownies according to the instructions on the box. I used an 8x8 baking dish so that my brownies mix would be thick enough to cover the eggs.  Pour about half of your batter into your dish then lay your Reese's eggs down. I used 12 of the smaller Reese's eggs for the filling.

Then you just pour the rest of the batter over the top and make sure the candy is completely covered. I just baked it as I would for just the brownies but the filling added about 5 minutes to my baking time.

They taste even better than they sound. We had such a hard time waiting for them to cool down enough to cut into them.

I'm sure you could try this with just about any kind of leftover Easter candy. Maddie has requested that we try it next with jelly beans. We may have to see about that.
